The following may be referred to as the Moonlight Jazz Swan song−Or is it Swing song? . . . Either way, it is with heavy hearts and much contemplation that we announce the official retirement of Rockford’s very own big band; the original, often imitated but never duplicated, Moonlight Jazz Orchestra. After 42 years and thousands of performances in the Stateline area, we've decided to end this wild ride on a high note.

Kent has been performing in and around the Northern Illinois area since the age of 12. Starting his musical career in school band, playing the alto saxophone it quickly moved on to other instruments. Early in his musicial career he joined the Phantom Regiment organization, spending 4 yrs in the cadet program. His first year he played the soprano (trumpet), the next year decided to pursue percussion playing the bass. He eventually move onto the snare drum and a love for rudiment drumming. At an early age, he audition and made the main corps playing bass drum for Phantom Regiments' 1988 show.

Throughtout his high school & college years Kent played for many different groups in the area. He played drums in alternative rock bands like Sandpaper Soul and Otherkind, while playing his saxophone for various horn bands such as The Resiters.

It was his senior year when Tony V approached him about an open spot in the Moonlight Jazz Orchestra. Kent started his career in MJO playing the baritone saxophone, but has also played alto and tenor for the band.

Kent took over the director position in 2012.
